Wu Jiannan, Executive Vice President of China Institute for Urban Governance of Shanghai Jiaotong University, Led a Delegation visit to the University of Toronto

On the morning of April 5, Wu Jiannan, executive vice president of the China Institute for Urban Governance of Shanghai Jiaotong University, director of the Department of Arts and Cultural Construction, and director of the Center for Reform, Innovation and Governance Modernization, led a delegation to the University of Toronto, Canada, and received a warm reception from the University of Toronto President Meric Gertler and the Assistant President Nadina Jamison. The delegation also included the special researcher of the School of Naval Architecture and Ocean Engineering of Shanghai Jiaotong University, the deputy director of the Department of Liberal Arts Construction, and the researcher of the China Institute for Urban Governance, Professor Sun Jian, and the Ph.D. student Wen Chao and a graduate student Wen Jing from the School of International and Public Affairs of Shanghai Jiaotong University and so on.

As the director of the Academic Committee of the China Institute for Urban Governance of Shanghai Jiaotong University, President Meric Gertler is very concerned about the development of the Institute. Wu Jiannan reported on the construction of the China Institute for Urban Governance and the preliminary achievements in the transformation of results and personnel training. It was highly recognized and highly appreciated by President Gertler. During the talks, Gertler introduced the construction of the University of Toronto's School for Cities. He hoped that the two sides could learn from each other's experience and cooperate in depth to build a platform for solving various urban affairs through interdisciplinary and teacher-student collaboration. Finally, the two sides also reached preliminary cooperation intentions on some international cooperation projects. The two sides hope to carry out more in-depth cross-school cooperation in academic research and personnel training in the future with the platform of the the China Institute for Urban Governance.

Subsequently, Wu Jiannan and the delegation also visited the Global Cities Institute (GCI) of the University of Toronto's Global City Institute, and held cordial talks with WCCD Chairman and CEO Ms. Patricia McCarney. Wu Jiannan expressed the strong desire of the China Institute for Urban Governance for open cooperation and development. He said that the China Institute for Urban Governance has conducted groundbreaking research on the comparison of global cities and performance rankings among Chinese cities, and has had a certain impact on China's urban development. The China Urban Governance Research Institute has opened up cooperation as its purpose at the beginning of its establishment. Through the integration of various resources, the goal of “Better City, Better Life” has been achieved. He hopes that  the China Institute for Urban Governance and the Global Urban Research Institute will soon establish a network of cooperation to jointly contribute to the development of global cities. Ms. Patricia McCarney introduced the development of GCI and the current key work. She expressed her great expectation of cooperation with Shanghai Jiaotong University China Institute for Urban Governance and hopes to visit Shanghai soon to discuss specific cooperation matters.

From April 5th to April 7th, Wu Jiannan led a delegation to participate in the 48th International Conference of the Urban Affairs Association (UAA). Professor Wu Jiannan, Professor Sun Jian, Qin Chao and Wen Jing shared relevant academic research at the meeting and expanded the influence of Shanghai Jiaotong University in the Urban Affairs Association. At the meeting, Wu Jiannan had an in-depth exchange with Igor, Editor-in-Chief of the Journal of Urban Affairs (JUA), Ms. Julian, Editor of Springer, and Liu Yang, Chairman of the China-America Association for Public Affairs (CAAPA), and invited them to participate in the "First Global Chinese Urban Governance Forum."
