Mr. JIANG Sixian

Jiang Sixian, Male, ethnic Han, born in Jiangsu Jiangdu in September 1954, professor. Mr. Jiang joined the work in January 1972 and joined the Communist Party of China in March 1976. He is currently the Party Secretary of Shanghai Jiao Tong University, the Director of the Shanghai Jiao Tong University School Committee, the member of the Advisory Committee of the Boao Forum for Asia, and the representative of the 18th National Congress of the Communist Party of China.

At the beginning of the undergraduate course, Mr. Jiang Sixian studied in the Mechanical Engineering Department of Shanghai Jiao Tong University from March 1978 to January 1985 and obtained a master's degree in engineering. After that, he stayed in school and served as secretary of the Communist Youth League Committee, deputy director and minister of the Propaganda Department of the Party Committee. In February 1993, he served as deputy secretary of the Party Committee of Shanghai Jiao Tong University. In February 1994, he served as deputy secretary and vice president of the Party Committee of Shanghai Jiao Tong University.

In November 1994, Mr. Jiang Sixian exchanged his place to work in the local area. He has served successively as deputy director of the Organization Department of the Shanghai Municipal Committee, district head of Xuhui District, and secretary general of the Shanghai Municipal Government. In August 2002, he served as deputy mayor of Shanghai. In February 2003, he served as secretary of the district party committee and district head of Pudong New Area. In April 2004, he served as member of the Standing Committee of Shanghai Municipal Committee and Minister of Organization Department. In November 2006, he was transferred to the vice governor of Hainan Province. He has been in charge of education, land resources and environmental protection, housing and urban and rural construction, state-owned assets management, Yangpu Development Zone, foreign affairs and overseas Chinese affairs, as well as development and reform, finance, transportation, and investment and financing platform construction. In February 2011, he served as deputy governor of Hainan Province and secretary of the Sanya Municipal Party Committee. In April 2012, he served as member of the Standing Committee of Hainan Provincial Party Committee and Secretary of Sanya Municipal Committee. Since January 2014, he has served as Party Secretary of Shanghai Jiao Tong University. On January 23, 2014, he was elected as the deputy director of the Shanghai Municipal People's Congress Standing Committee at the second meeting of the 14th Shanghai Municipal People's Congress.

Mr. Jiang Sixian has deep feelings for the cause of education, and is familiar with the law of running schools and the leadership work of party committees. Rich theoretical knowledge and years of leadership work practices have given him unique insights into the governance of colleges and universities and the development of education reform.

As a visiting scholar, he went to the University of British Columbia in Canada to study urban economics and went to Harvard University to participate in senior administrative management training.

Mr. Jiang Sixian played an important role in the opening up of Hainan Province. He was elected as a director of the Boao Forum for Asia in April 2010 and was appointed as a member of the Boao Forum for Asia Advisory Committee in March 2015.
