Professor He Daki And Professor Wu Yusheng from the School of Public Affairs and Management of The University of Kansas Visited the China Institute for Urban Governance and Gave a Workshop Report

On the afternoon of May 31, Prof. He Daki, a tenured professor of the School of Public Affairs and Management at the University of Kansas, and researcher Wu Yusheng visited the China Institute of Urban Governance and gave a presentation in a workshop entitled “Big Data, Public Administration and Urban Governance”. The workshop was hosted by Wu Jiannan, Distinguished Professor of the School of International and Public Affairs of Shanghai Jiao Tong University, Executive Vice President of the China Institute for Urban Governance, and Director of the Department of Arts and Cultural Construction. More than 30 people, including researchers from the China Institute for Urban Governance, teachers, domestic and international students from the School of International and Public Affairs, attended the lecture. The atmosphere was lively.

The workshop is divided into four parts, namely "What is big data analysis method? Big data application in public management and urban governance", "Data-driven public management: from data preparation, experimental data analysis, data visualization, construction Model-to-model evaluation," "Case study: How to use big data analysis tools to improve public management and urban governance”, “From practical application to theoretical construction and governance research: research process of public management and urban governance”. Professor He Daki first taught about the big data, the application of big data in the field of public management, the opportunities and challenges brought by big data to the field of public management, and then analyzed the social problems brought by big data and the value of its existence. Next, Prof. Wu Yusheng introduced the differences between machine learning methods and traditional statistical methods, and the characteristics and limitations of machine learning methods. Professor He Daki explained the existing research on the use of big data in the United States, and proposed the deviations and defects of big data research. Then Professor Wu Yusheng summarized the role of big data and machine learning in police law enforcement. Finally, Prof. He Daki and Prof. Wu Yusheng introduced the recommendations on how big data can help the government and how the government should respond to the challenges of big data.

After the end of the lectures, the participants enthusiastically asked questions to Prof. He Daki and Prof. Wu Yusheng around the contents of the workshop. Professor He Daki elaborated his views on the combination of experiments and big data methods, and the relationship between big data and medical fields. Prof. He Daki and Prof. Wu Yusheng’s research and analysis of big data are refreshing and inspiring. Finally, in the warm applause of the teachers and students, this workshop was successfully concluded.
