Yao Lei, professor and doctoral tutor of Shanghai Jiaotong University, the founder of the Shanghai Jiaotong University Aromatic Plant R&D Center. The center is the first research institution in China to specialize in aromatic plant species resources, planting base construction, essential oils extraction, safety and efficacy evaluation of essential oils and application of aromatic plants in healing garden. Yao and her team had published 82 academic papers in academic journals and 11 articles on popular science in newspapers and magazines, granted 22 invention patents, trained 5 doctoral students and 79 master students. She is now the member of the Shanghai Political Consultative Committee, Member of the Standing Committee of the China Democracy League Shanghai Municipality, deputy director of the expert committee of the China Fragrance & Cosmetics Industry Association, vice president of aromatic medicine branch of the China Medical Association of Minorities. Vice Chairman of Plant Fragrance Branch of the China International Exchange and Promotive Association for Medical and Health Care, editorial board of academic journal "Perfume Cosmetics".
