Dr. Zhiwei Lian is a full Professor (tenured professor) in the department of architecture at Shanghai Jiao Tong University (SJTU). He received his doctoral degree at Xi’an Jiao Tong University in 1995. He was promoted to Associate Professor in Dec. 1994, and then to full Professor in Dec. 1998. He worked as a visiting professor in the Korea Institute of Energy Research (KIER) in 2003; as a senior visiting scholar in the CEEE at the University of Maryland (UMD) in 2004, and as a visiting professor in ICIEE at Technical University of Denmark (DTU) in 2007. He is the director of the Center for Built Environment & Energy at SJTU, and members of several professional societies, technical and standardization committees.

Prof. Lian’s current research interest focus in indoor environment and energy efficiency. He has carried out researches on heat-and-mass transfer, human response to indoor environment (health, comfort and productivity), air distribution in buildings, improvements of indoor air quality, energy saving in buildings and so on. He is the PI of many important national projects, including 11 projects sponsored by National Natural Sciences Foundation of China (NSFC). He was the supervisor of more than 60 master students, 20 Ph.D students. He has more than 300 academic papers published, half of which were published by international peer review journals and cited by SCI/EI. He has been Most Cited Chinese Researcher since Elsevier set up the list in 2014. Prof. Lian has also written 5 academic books, one of which was supported by the specialized publication foundation of National Natural Science Foundation of China. He is the owner of near 40 national invention patents. He served as section chairmen and scientific committee members for more than 20 international conferences. He was also invited to give keynote speeches at several international conferences. And he has received several awards from the provincial governments for this work, such as 2nd award for technological invention in Shanghai.
